JOURNAL
I’m scared to write a song everyday. It takes so much out of me. I guess it literally is taking a lot out of me…the emotions, ideas, dedicated energy, laser beam focus, courage, patience, willingness to take risks and open up with faith to keep going. There is a LOT going on inside of me as I create songs. When the song is done I feel satisfied, rewarded by the hard work, amazed, more confident. The song is stuck in my head and there is no question in me that I have spent my time well or become a better version of myself because of this work. It’s demanding. I’m exhausted. And I feel clear and empowered by focus for the first time in a long ass time. It’s feeling like a full time job and I’m wondering that the fuck I’ve gotten myself into and I’m also excited that life actually feels different. I was feeling stuck and down for too many months, wishing for a change. We’ll this is a big fucking change and I appreciate the freshness. Fresh music on the way. I start releasing the songs next week. ✌🏼🎹
We wrote todays song on the living room floor of an Airbnb in Portland. We drove down from Seattle with a car full of lingerie, neck ties, musical equipment, snacks and conversations about our New Years intentions. The boys (Jake Tacher and Davey Browne) talked about money and career ambitions, life priorities and what really matters in life…like what are you going to do with the money you earn. I sat quietly with my iPad and wrote down any words they spoke that seems beautiful or interesting when taken out of context. I was gathering lyrics. As the car arrived in Portland I organized the random phrases into coherent poetry. We went out for Thai food and then quickly recorded an improv guitar and vocal melody. We recorded it quick because we had a news years rave to go to. Speaking of…gotta go.
